Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire resides in a quiet area of Montreal Island known as West Island. The people who aren't familiar with this term tend to think it's an island that's to the west of Montreal however, it's a part of the city that's west. West Island is home to all things from Lachine west to the City of Lachine west. Amanda Brugel's birthplace has been frequently mentioned, but her brief visit to the West Island wasn't. Brugel was raised in Courtice close to Oshawa in Ontario. Early ambitions were to become a dancer. But, a growing increase caused her to surpass all of the dance partners she was able to have. In a recent interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I am 6 feet 1 inches." After I became too big for my male companions, I quit. Many former dancers turn to acting and in the case of Brugel it was an urging by her teacher of drama. A teacher suggested that she audition for an annual school play. After a few auditions, she ended up as the main character for Anne of Green Gables. It led to the award of a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program and earned the Bachelor in Fine Arts degree in 2000. Since then, she's appeared in over 60 productions both big and small. Most notable was when she landed the role of Rita on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian actor in the season 1 and was only seen at times.
